Every Odoo release updates local accounting, tax and payroll rules. Odoo 20 includes notable changes for China, Hong Kong and Vietnam. Here is what the official release notes list for each.
China
- Asset models aligned with Article 60 of the Corporate Income Tax Regulations.
- Parent accounts for a parent-child account hierarchy.
- An improved voucher template with batch printing.
- Better VAT handling, and a "VAT and Surcharges Return for General Taxpayers" report.
- VAT differential taxation: deductible amounts can be entered on invoice lines, and the output VAT offset entries are posted automatically.
The release notes do not mention any fapiao or Golden Tax integration. Issuing fapiao from Odoo still needs a separate connector.
Hong Kong
- Chart of accounts, profit and loss and balance sheet updated for full compliance with HKFRS for Private Entities.
- Payroll has many additions: average daily wage, monthly MPF reports, payroll groups and member classes, IR56B/E/F/G forms in XML and PDF to the IRD specification, and an IR56M report. The notes state that IR56 employer tax forms are now approved for submission to the IRD.
- Payment files: HSBC Autopay export and a Bank of China report for FPS.
- Pay schedules from daily to semi-monthly, a structure for casual employees under the MPF Industry Scheme, a structure for contractors and freelancers, a "468 Rule" warning, and work-injury sick leave under the Employees' Compensation Ordinance.
Vietnam
- Tax Declaration Form 01/GTGT with Appendix 142, exportable in XML for HTKK or the tax portal.
- Electronic internal transfer notes through SInvoice.
- General Journal S03a-DN and General Ledger S03b-DN reports under Circular 99.
- Parent accounts and renamed tax tags.
Some related features already existed in earlier versions, such as the Circular 99/2025 chart of accounts and SInvoice e-invoices from the Point of Sale. In China, the improved chart of accounts and financial reports also date from Odoo 19.
Elsewhere in the region
Malaysia gets consolidated invoices and MyInvois across branches. Singapore gets IRAS-compliant invoice and credit note layouts and SFRS-aligned reports.
How to get it
Odoo 20 is available now for new databases on Odoo Online and Odoo.sh. For existing databases, Odoo expects to open its upgrade platform around the end of November 2026, with a test mode available earlier. If your database has custom modules, plan a test upgrade first: that is where most of the real work sits.
We implement Odoo for companies in mainland China, Hong Kong and Vietnam. If you want to know what these changes mean for your entities, write to odoo@majorbird.com.
