Majorbird MES · Technology
The technology behind Majorbird MES.
An MES is the foundation your factory runs on for years: where your data lives, who controls it, how it connects to your machines. We built it on proven open platforms and open standards, with Majorbird’s own manufacturing layer on top. No proprietary black box, and your data and settings can be exported at any time.

Seven proven layers, one connected platform
Odoo
the ERP and application platformWhat it is
A mature ERP and business-application platform used by millions of users worldwide.
Its role in your MES
The connected backbone: orders, products, bills of materials, routings, inventory and results all live here. Majorbird MES runs inside your Odoo ERP, or as its own instance synced with your ERP, so the floor and the back office share the same data.
Why it matters to you
One connected record across planning, production and quality: no double entry, no islands to reconcile. Open and widely adopted, so many partners can run and extend it.
PostgreSQL
where your data livesWhat it is
The world’s most advanced relational database, trusted for mission-critical data.
Its role in your MES
Every serial, measurement, inspection result and genealogy link is stored in PostgreSQL in open, standard formats.
Why it matters to you
Your production history is always within reach: query it, back it up, export it any time in open formats. Proven at scale, so it stays fast as your history grows.
Grafana
live production dashboardsWhat it is
The leading platform for real-time dashboards and monitoring.
Its role in your MES
Turns the data flowing off the line into live views (first-pass yield, throughput, station status, defect trends) on the floor, in the office, and on a phone.
Why it matters to you
See what’s happening now, not in yesterday’s report. Fully customizable, and open: add, change or embed views with no per-viewer licence fees.
MQTT / EMQX
how your machines talkWhat it is
MQTT is the open, industry-standard messaging protocol for connecting machines and sensors (the language of industrial IoT). EMQX is a high-performance MQTT broker.
Its role in your MES
Testers, instruments and equipment publish readings over MQTT; the MES listens and captures the values straight into the unit’s record: no manual typing.
Why it matters to you
Machine data captured automatically and accurately. Because MQTT is an open standard, almost any modern equipment integrates without a proprietary bridge.
Telegraf
connect any machine or instrumentWhat it is
A widely used data collector with hundreds of plugins for industrial equipment and IT systems.
Its role in your MES
It reads PLCs and sensors over the protocols they already speak (OPC UA, Modbus and more, configured per site) and publishes the values onto the MQTT bus. Equipment that talks MQTT or HTTP connects directly, and serial / COM instruments plug into the operator terminal.
Why it matters to you
You are not tied to one kind of machine or one vendor's protocol: new and old equipment, PLCs and bench instruments alike, plug into the same pipeline.
Linux & Docker
a portable, dependable deploymentWhat it is
Linux is the open OS that runs most of the world’s servers; Docker packages software into portable, self-contained containers.
Its role in your MES
The whole system deploys as containers on Linux, so it installs and updates cleanly and runs the same way everywhere.
Why it matters to you
Runs on your own server, close to the line, and can move to new hardware later without a rebuild. Portable, predictable deployments.
Open web standards
the operator terminalWhat it is
The shop-floor terminal is a standard web application that runs in an ordinary browser.
Its role in your MES
Operators work from any tablet, PC or phone, scanning by camera or scanner, reading connected serial devices, with nothing to install.
Why it matters to you
No app to install or maintain on each device, and no special hardware to buy. Any modern browser is a workstation, keeping rollout fast and running costs low.
How it fits together
A layered system, top to bottom
- ▪ The shop floor: operators on browser terminals; machines and instruments feeding data over MQTT and HTTP, OPC UA and Modbus (through Telegraf), and serial / COM.
- ▪ The MES layer: Majorbird’s process designer, scenario engine and terminal that guide the work, capture every result, and enforce quality and traceability.
- ▪ The connected core: Odoo for orders, products and inventory, and PostgreSQL for the permanent record, with Grafana reading live off the same data.
Orders flow down from the ERP to the floor; results, serials and traceability flow back up into your ERP. One connected platform, from planning to production to the permanent record.

What this means for your IT team
Your own server, close to the line
Runs on your own server, close to the line. Your data stays in your plant, in standard formats and a standard database.
Open and portable
No proprietary database, and no single supplier who can hold the line hostage.
Proven and supported
Every foundation component is mature, widely deployed and actively maintained by a large community.
Lower total cost
No per-viewer dashboard fees and no forced hardware: terminals run in any modern browser.
Deploy your way
On-premise or cloud, your servers or ours, and portable if that ever changes.
