AI is the headline of Odoo 20. The official release notes list a set of concrete changes to how AI agents work inside Odoo. Here they are, in plain terms.
What agents can do
- Create records from a request, including from an uploaded file of instructions such as a PDF.
- Update records on request.
- Work with files. Upload files and link documents in agent chats, and ask questions about a file while previewing it.
- Generate images and enriched buttons for websites and mailings.
- Filter by time period (weeks, quarters) when building views.
How agents are set up and used
- Skills. "Topics", the collections of instructions and tools that define how an agent behaves in a given context, are now called skills.
- Agentic automation. Agents can be called from automated and scheduled actions. You can check automation chats to see how an agent handled a task and ask for changes based on the errors it met. Agents can also update themselves to serve their use case better.
- Model-bound agents. When an agent works on a specific model, it suggests becoming that model's default agent.
- Interactive responses. Answer an agent's questions, permission requests and suggestions with buttons. Agents show live updates on what they are doing.
- Tool call limit. When an agent reaches its maximum number of tool calls, it asks the user before continuing.
- Voice. Dictate requests directly to an agent.
- Automatic model selection. Choose an AI provider and Odoo picks the best model for each task.
- Conversations are stored for up to 30 days after the last message.
Connecting Odoo to other AI tools
Odoo 20 lets you connect to your database through MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard many AI tools now use to reach business systems.
AI elsewhere in the apps
In Accounting, the AI assistant can give insights into your finances based only on the accounting data in your database. In live chat, records an agent mentions can appear as clickable cards. The website has an AI website assistant.
Cost
All AI features in Odoo 20 now require credits, bought through Odoo's in-app purchase system (IAP). It is worth estimating usage before rolling agents out widely.
How to get it
Odoo 20 is available now for new databases on Odoo Online and Odoo.sh. For existing databases, Odoo expects to open its upgrade platform around the end of November 2026, with a test mode available earlier. If your database has custom modules, plan a test upgrade first: that is where most of the real work sits.
